Highlighting Publication Opportunities
We support faculty research through innovative transformative agreements and open access publishing.
CWU Libraries Supports Faculty Research
What is a transformative agreement? In essence, a transformative agreement transfers the financial responsibility of open access publication fees from individual authors to an institutional level (in our case to CWU Libraries), while simultaneously eliminating subscription costs to online materials within a particular package.
CWU Libraries has entered into transformative agreements with several publishers via the Orbis Cascade Alliance to ensure equitable access to key collections and further elevate our publishing opportunities for current faculty at CWU. This allows all researchers to access resources free of charge and current faculty to submit for publication with the associated costs assumed by CWU Libraries for accepted works.
Our Participating Publishers
CWU Libraries has entered two transformative agreements as part of the Orbis Cascade Alliance. To learn more about open access publishing opportunities with the Association for Computing Machinery and Cambridge University Press via the CWU Libraries transformative agreement, please email libraries@cwu.edu.
We will be sure to update this site with additional information regarding any future agreements we enter. Check back regularly for current publishing opportunities.
ACM (Association for Computing Machinery)
ACM Publications focuses on computer research and innovation scholarship. ACM Open seeks to expand access to scholarly materials and enhance the publication pipeline.
Cambridge University Press
Cambridge University Press covers a broad range of topics and research areas. Open Access Publishing with Cambridge promotes wide-spread access to scholarly works and embraces lifting financial burdens for publishing faculty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Want to learn more about transformative agreements and open access publishing? Take a look at the FAQ section below or email us at libraries@cwu.edu.
-
What are the benefits of open access publishing with a transformative agreement?
There are several benefits when publishing open access with one of our transformative agreements including but not limited to:
- Publication cost assumed by CWU Libraries
- Automatic deposit of accepted articles into our institutional repository (ScholarWorks)
- Improved discoverability of scholarship and reduced barriers to accessing publications
- Opportunity to add a Creative Commons License to local copies of scholarship
Furthermore, open access scholarship contributes to greater selection for faculty and students seeking affordable course materials.
-
Who can participate in this opportunity at CWU?
Current CWU faculty can participate as primary submitter. If you have student co-authors or co-authors from other institutions, please reach out to CWU Libraries at libraries@cwu.edu to discuss if this opportunity is a match for your publication affiliation.
Please note, CWU Libraries holds the right to accept or not accept submissions.
-
Will we still have access to read online articles with these publishers?
Yes! CWU students, faculty, and staff will still have access. The elimination of subscription costs will not affect institutional access to the resources within our chosen package. In fact, those items are open access, which means anyone can read them!
-
What publishing cost does CWU Libraries assume?
CWU Libraries assumes the cost that would normally rest with individual authors seeking to publish accepted work with the ACM and the Cambridge University Press in an Open Access manner. This replaces a portion of the subscription fee that we historically paid to access online resources.
-
How do the submission and peer review processes function within open access publishing via these transformative agreements?
For additional information about how to take part in this opportunity, please reach out to us at libraries@cwu.edu.
